alternaria growth in contact lens of a patient

introduction: some fungi such as aspergillus, alternaria, cladosporium and fuzadium can peneterate matrix of contact lens. alternaria is a saprop and a pathogen in plants which is rarely seen in human being. this paper reported one case of contact lens contamination with alternaria in human. case report: the patient is a 24 year old woman who had used contact lens for 7 months. since she was on a trip she couldn’t use the lenses and after 3 days some black spots were seen on the lenses. she  consulted an ophthalmologist. the lenses was cultured and alternaria was reported. conclussion: the lens and its fluid can be a good enviroment for the growth of bacteria and fungi which rarely cause illness in human, so keeping lenses in sterilized conditions is recommended.
